Victorian agriculture business can now receive up to $1200 to fit rollover protection or upgrade quad bikes in an effort to reduce quad bike deaths.
The $6 million scheme comes after the Victorian government consulted the Victorian Chamber, who sent a strong message that if the government wanted to tackle quad bike safety, it was essential to offer financial assistance to businesses retrofitting rollover protection or buying new, safer vehicles.
Last year, quad bike accidents killed 22 Australians, and two Victorian farmers lost their lives in the past three months.
Under the scheme, eligible agricultural businesses will be offered up to $600 each for up to two quad bikes to fit rollover protection or $1200 towards the cost of buying a more appropriate work vehicle. The scheme will begin later this year and be administered by the Victorian Farmers Federation. (Source: Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry).
