These two units are combined into a two day course which provides attendees with two completed units of the Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations.

Focus:

This unit covers the cutting and non load-bearing welding of materials using manual metal arc welding, oxyacetylene and cutting equipment and systems.

Prerequisites

Work Safely Training (mandatory unit)

Attendees will learn how to undertake operations such as preparing screen cloths, welding guards and hard facing loader teeth. The course also covers the safety and theory involved in oxy cutting and arc/mig/tig welding procedures.

The unit requires the attendance of both day’s training and the successful completion of a homework project.

Specific skills
  • Safe practices, preparation and maintenance
  • Cutting bolt holes in screen cloth and cutting bolt heads off
  • Flame gouging to prepare for welding or remove weld defects
  • Welding machinery guards and various other items around plant
  • Hard facing loader teeth
  • Weaving, tack welds, fillet welds and reinforcement
